Mic with Cardioid capsule: Currently Shipping

Omni and Super Carioid capsules: 7/1/2012

Atmosphere is a small diaphragm condenser with a sound that rivals many large diaphragm studio condensers. The rugged and convenient exterior, and the built in pop filter allow quick and easy setup for a variety of vocal and acoustic instrument applications.

The sonic qualities of Atmosphere are partially due to the advanced 4 transistor FET amplifier circuit incorporated in the mic which make it sensitive, responsive, and capable of capturing the entire audio frequency range. Unlike dynamic mics which mainly pickup the sound source that is close to them, due to its higher sensitivity, this microphone can capture the ambiance along with the primary sound source close to it.

While recording sound samples, atmosphere became one of our favorite “go to” mics due to its versatility, sound quality, and ease of use.

Atmosphere is suitable for a widely variety of applications both in studio and on stage. Aside from the obvious vocal applications, it produces excellent results for drum overheads , percussion sources, and acoustic instruments such as guitars, upright bass, and strings. Due to its 20 Hz to 20kHz frequency response, it is perfectly suitable for full band live stereo pair recordings, or as a room mic.

Atmosphere shares the head grill and body construction with our RT-1. A road worthy simple and elegant design, with virtually nothing breakable on the exterior.

The 22mm capsule used has a tight cardioid pattern and it is interchangeable to allow use of other capsules with special sound characteristics which will be available in the near future.

Compass

A tube mic with fantastic flexibility and tone

Release Date:  Planned for second half of 2012

This is the mic we've been anxious to tell everyone about!

Our new patent pending capsule mounting system  incorporated in Compass allows for communication of  multiple pickup pattern signals between the microphone body and capsules.  This is a new and exciting approach for a tube mic with interchangeable capsules because it allows obtaining multiple sonic characters from each capsule.  You can select from cardioid, Omni, figure 8 patterns, and 6 other "intermediate"  patterns using a dial on the power supply unit.

As a result of how the output from two diaphragms in each capsules interact, each pattern selection position produces a slightly different tone.  There is no noise from switching the patterns on the dial and the pattern and sound gradually change within about 2 to 3 seconds to the new setting.

We are initially including two capsules with the mic; General purpose and Vocal.  The vocal capsule has its electrical contacts on the side of the diaphragms as opposed to the center of the diaphragm which is the norm. This allows the full surface of the diaphragm to vibrate which produces a very rich tone with slightly less emphasis on highs. This helps with sibilance issues sometimes encountered with tube mics. There are plans for very unique additional capsules for this mic which will be available in the near future.

Compass uses a 12ax7 tube and comes with two capsules, aluminum carrying case, power adapter, power cables, shock mount, foam wind screen, and a soft pouch.

We will release more information and specifications regarding compass and a plan to pre-order from the first production batch at a discounted price soon. Please visit this page for updates.

Hype

Release Date: Currently Shipping

We have always been fans of sonic clarity and it certainly helps in making a track stand out in the mix. In the old analog days, when everything was missing some high frequencies, you could add some highs to your EQ to make a track .  In today's digital clarity age, adding highs via EQ can make things sound thin and brittle.

What if you had a mic with a response curve that peaks outside the hearing range and the closer the frequencies get to the limit of 20 Kilo Hertz, the more more responsive the mic would be? It would certainly add a feeling of openness and heightened presence, and with the peak outside the hearing range, it would not add any "metallic" flavor to the the sound.

The above thinking is the philosophy behind Hype. It is a simple and affordable mic with extreme clarity.   If you want a track to jump out and grab the attention of the listener, Hype is the answer. It is linear up to 10 kHz, but above that, the response keeps increasing in a subtle way. With the peak outside the audible range,  no particular frequency sounds emphasized. The result is full sounding recordings that are very lively and "present" sounding.

MSRP: $229
